Update on Flight Disruptions due to Volcanic Ash Cloud
UPDATE : 09.30, 15 June 2011Travellers face yet another day of uncertainty as the volcanic ash cloud continues to disrupt flights.
The team at Goldman Travel will be working hard to stay abreast of the latest information and assist clients affected by cancelled flights and we thank you for your patience as we prioritise our workloads according to travel dates.
Below is a summary of this morning’s announcements by our major domestic carriers:
Many Qantas and Jetstar flights are still suspended or cancelled until at least 2pm EST, and the airlines will issue an update before that point.
Jetstar has followed Qantas' lead in declaring routes off-limits due to ash risk, and all signs point to that pattern continuing.
Qantas has made announcements through an unpredictable variety of channels such as their website and the Media.
Virgin Australia is therefore the only airline flying Tasmanian services into Launceston (LST) and Hobart (HBA) airports from mainland Australia.
Virgin "will operate normal scheduled services today" according to an airline spokesperson, so it looks like Virgin is the best bet to get to or from Tasmania today.
Just announced on the radio now however are Virgin Australia’s plans to cancel flights to/from Perth from 3pm today as the ash cloud moves over that part of Australia.
Tiger Airways' website is currently offline, but the airline cancelled all Tasmania flights until further notice on Tuesday.
Furthermore Qantas advise the following on their website:
· Flights to and from of Adelaide, Perth, Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne have been confirmed for Wednesday 15 June
· Flights to and from Johannesburg have been confirmed for Wednesday 15 June
· Flights to and from New Zealand have been cancelled until 12.00 pm (AEST) on Thursday 16 June, pending further assessment from our Meteorology Department
· Flights to and from Tasmania have been cancelled until 11.00 am (AEST) on Wednesday 15 June, pending further assessment from our Meteorology Department
· Flights to and from Buenos Aires (QF17, QF18) on Wednesday 15 June have been post-poned 24 hours.
Please pass the following websites to your travellers. We strongly recommend they check their flight status before heading to the airport, and of course please don’t hesitate to contact a Goldman Travel team member if we can offer our assistance.
